Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Flow synchronises breath and movement. It is a faster paced practice.

In Sanskrit, ‘Vinyasa’ means connection. The breath plays an important part in the connecting of each movement.

In the West, ‘flow yoga’ is used to describe the way that the poses smoothly flow into each other. It has a dance like quality and allows for more diversity in the sequencing.

Originating from Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga by a Yogi named Sri Tirumala Krishnamacharya, the teachings were then passed down to Pattabhi Jois who birthed the Ashtanga institute. This is a set asana series, that is progressively mastered over time.

In a “Vinyasa Flow” class, the style and sequencing will vary. Beginners can join, initially modifying, until they develop their practice to include more challenges.

Vinyasa flow is a more energetic, cardio based style of yoga practice that expels toxins and energises the body.

Although it is a more dynamic style of yoga, it has similar benefits to hatha yoga on the mind and body.
